Man gets 16 to 40 years for death of infant daughter

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A Cumberland County man will spend up to 40 years in prison for the beating death of his 4-week-old daughter more than three years ago.

Justin Lamont Thompson, 36, of South Middleton Township, was sentenced Tuesday in Cumberland County Court to 200 to 480 months in prison.

A jury earlier this month found Thompson guilty of criminal homicide, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and recklessly endangering in the death of Ahzyre Thompson.

The baby girl died September 1, 2011 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center shortly after Thompson called 911 to report that she wasn’t breathing,

Authorities said the infant suffered traumatic injuries to her head and neck, had blood in her eyes and bruises to her face. They said the injuries were consistent with “substantial external force being applied to the child’s head.”

Authorities said Thompson was the only adult with his daughter when the injuries occurred.
