YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – A York County woman who cut her 2-year-old son’s neck last year has pleaded guilty but mentally ill.
Candis S. Bradshaw, 37, of Lewisberry, entered the plea Tuesday to charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and possessing an instrument of crime, according to court documents.
She was immediately sentenced to 5 to 10 years confinement followed by 20 years probation, and she was ordered to have no contact with her son.
A charge of attempted homicide was dismissed.
Authorities said Bradshaw used a 12-inch butcher knife to cause two slash wounds, each several inches long, on both sides of the boy’s neck. She then stabbed herself in the chest at the family’s home in the first block of Foxfire Lane on January 17, 2014.
The child was released from a hospital within days.
