CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Franklin County woman was arrested after police said she admitted to causing burn injuries to a 17-month-old child.
The boy had second-degree burns to his buttocks and genitals when 19-year-old Lorena Vega took him to the Chambersburg Hospital emergency room last Thursday, according to charging documents.
The child, her boyfriend’s son, was later transferred to the burn center at Lehigh Valley Hospital for further treatment.
Vega, of Chambersburg, was interviewed several times and eventually confessed to causing the injuries by placing the boy in hot water, according to police and charging documents.
According to the criminal complaint, Vega told officers she was frustrated because the boy was biting her and he did not wanted to be bathed. She said he had soiled his diaper and still had the odor on him, so she ran the hot water and “pushed” the boy into it.
She was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and recklessly endangering.
Her bail at Franklin County Jail was set at $150,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled Feb. 24.
