Passengers on an Amtrak train headed for Harrisburg are safe after being stranded for nearly two hours early Tuesday morning.
An Amtrak spokesperson confirmed that a mechanical problem lead to Train 671 breaking down in Lancaster County. It happened around 12:30 a.m.
Upon finally arriving in Harrisburg, several passengers told abc27 the train had no power, so it was dark and cold while they waited on the tracks for the train that was sent to rescue them. Many said they tried to console each other.
“A lot of people were visibly upset,” said passenger Dan Clemente. “We made the most of it. We did what we could to keep people happy but people were definitely struggling to sit in there.”
When asked why passengers were not allowed to wait in a nearby building, the Amtrak spokesperson said he did not have that information.
