Assault suspect arrested on icy Susquehanna River

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Police arrested an assault suspect after a four-hour search of the frozen Susquehanna River this afternoon.

The man was loaded into a waiting ambulance at around 2:40 p.m.

Police said he was armed with a wooden club when he hit a person in the head and smashed the rear window of a Harrisburg police car at PennDOT’s Riverfront Office Center earlier in the day.

He then fled across the ice-covered Susquehanna River to Redbuds Island.

His name was not immediately released.

River Rescue and state police helicopters were involved in the search.
