Lancaster police remain focused after threats to 3 of their own

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – Lancaster police arrested 30-year-old Akeem Washington for allegedly plotting to kill three police officers who arrested him in December.

Washington was in prison when he police say he told an inmate he would lure two officers with an anonymous call and shoot them. He also threatened to follow a third officer to his home and kill him and his family.

This comes on the heels of nationwide violence and animosity against police. Lancaster Police Chief Keith Sadler said he sent a letter to all of his officers, reminding them to rely on their training and to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Sadler said he was angry when he heard of the threats, and he had to take them seriously.

“The two officers that got killed in New York, you can’t ignore it,” Sadler said. “This is taken seriously, and it has to be.”

Washington will be arraigned on Friday. He is facing several felony charges.
