HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – J.C. Penney said Thursday it will close five Pennsylvania stores and about 35 others nationwide over the next year.
The Pennsylvania stores include those at the York Galleria Mall, the Chambersburg Mall, the Nittany Mall in State College, the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Selinsgrove, and the Granite Run Mall in Media, a company spokeswoman confirmed for ABC 27 News.
The spokeswoman said the closures in Pennsylvania will affect just over 300 associates.
She said the decision was made after a careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the company.
The announcement comes one day after J.C. Penney said its same-store sales rose 3.7 percent during the holiday shopping season.
