NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. (WHTM) – Cold weather has halted the search for a missing Cumberland County teenager.
New Cumberland River Rescue was out on the Susquehanna River this morning, but was forced to return to shore and suspend their search for 17-year-old Medard Kowalski when ice began forming around their boat.
A member of the rescue group said the river ice is eight inches thick in some places, and that makes it too risky to search right now.
Kowalski, a junior at Cedar Cliff High School, went missing more than a month ago on December 1 while canoeing on the river. He had planned to hunt deer on Hoak Island, but did not return in the evening.
