Police: Gunman tried to rob hotel guest in car

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – Police are investigating a report that a gunman attempted to rob a guest at a Cumberland County hotel.

Middlesex Township police said the guest had driven up to the front door of the Quality Inn, at 1255 Harrisburg Pike, and stayed in his car while his wife went inside to check out Saturday morning around 6:30 a.m.

While the wife was inside the lobby, the gunman appeared from the rear seat of the vehicle and told the driver to “hand over all the cash,” police said in a news release.

The driver told the would-be robber that he had no money and to get out of the car, and at that point the wife returned, saw the gunman in the back seat, and ran back into the hotel to call police.

The robber fled and was last seen running toward the Route 11 Diner.

Police said he was described as a while man in his mid 20’s, unshaven, about 5’8′ tall, 160 pounds, and was wearing a black hoodie. The handgun was described as a black semi-automatic, possibly a Glock 9mm.

The man and his wife were not harmed.

Anyone with information is asked to call Middlesex Township police at 717-249-7191.
