Crews are searching islands on the Susquehanna River for a missing hunter.
Officials say the hunter is a 17-year-old male. Investigators say the teenager put his canoe in the water on the Cumberland County side. He was last seen on the river around 3:30pm on Monday.
Rescue teams spent several hours searching Hoak, Zimmerman and Fritz Islands, which are near the Turnpike Bridge over the Susquehanna.
His canoe was found, but there was no sign of the teenager.
Swatara Township Police Lieutenant Tom Stauffer says it was a team effort, on land, in the water and in the air. “We were working with the state police and they were using their helicopter trying to help search the area,” said Stauffer “There are people in our command center looking for resources from anywhere they can find them in order to help find this young man.”
At this time the name of the 17-year-old has not been released. So far, no word on when the search will resume.
