PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pennsylvania’s gubernatorial candidates appealed for voters’ support In the last debate of their campaign with Gov. Tom Corbett saying he deserves re-election because he’s “not finished yet” and Democratic challenger Tom Wolf saying he can do the job better than Corbett.
The candidates fielded a barrage of questions about issues including taxes, public pensions and election laws, but broke no new ground in the hour long debate at a Pittsburgh TV station.
The Republican governor hammered away at unanswered questions about Wolf’s plan to shift more of the income-tax burden onto the wealthy, while Wolf sought to portray the incumbent as a weak leader.
Independent polls show Wolf, a York businessman running his first campaign, leading Corbett, a former two-term attorney general.
The election is Nov. 4.
