A New Holland woman has been held for court on charges she concealed the death of her premature baby by placing the stillborn infant in the trash.
A district judge on Thursday found enough evidence against 30-year-old Marie Guepsie Lavaud to send her case to Lancaster County court.
Lavaud is scheduled for a formal arraignment on counts of concealing the death of a child and abuse of a corpse on Sept. 26.
She remains in Lancaster County Prison on $150,000 cash bail.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Lavaud’s East Jackson Street apartment July 27 after she told a woman from her church that she had a miscarriage days earlier and put the baby in her freezer.
Investigators eventually found the infant’s body among the garbage in a trash bag on Lavaud’s front porch.
