Services cannot be held inside a Harrisburg church because of safety concerns.

Walter Dockens, senior pastor of the Trinity Church of God at N. Fourth and Maclay streets, said there are problems with beams over the sanctuary and some of the walls have shifted.

The church has been evacuated until further notice, but it has not been condemned.

Dockens said they are awaiting a final report from engineers to determine whether the church can pay for repairs or look for a new location.

“There is some work that needs to be done up there, some shoring up, possibly demolition,” Dockens said.

The church was built in 1907. Trinity Church of God moved in after Hurricane Agnes in 1972.

The church will hold services and its community day picnic this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot.

Beginning September 7, all church services will be held at the Boys and Girls Club on Berryhill Street until further notice.
