A section of Interstate 78 in Berks County has reopened after being closed Friday night into Saturday morning for emergency bridge repair.
Workers removed part of the Airport Road bridge over I-78 in Bethel Township because the beams were struck last weekend by a truck hauling a large piece of construction equipment, according to a PennDOT news release.
The crash caused irreparable damage to the bridge.
Beginning Friday 11 p.m., I-78 was closed between Exit 13 for Route 501 and Exit 16 at Midway for approximately 15 hours while six overhead beams were removed. The interstate reopened early Saturday afternoon, according to dispatchers.
