President Obama orders airstrikes in Iraq “if necessary”

President Obama has authorized military action in Iraq “if necessary”.  He announced that at the White House late Thursday night.

The Islamic terrorist group ISIS has pledged to eliminate non-Muslims and have surrounded a mountain where a minority religious group has fled for protection. The U.S. has already begun providing them with humanitarian assistance, airdropping food and water, so they don’t die of hunger and thirst. Obama said the Yazidi people have already lost 20 children in the blazing sun.

Airstrikes could be conducted if the terrorists begin to commit genocide against the Yazidis or Christians, or if they make a move toward U.S. installations, including a nearby consulate.

President Obama calls this “violence on a horrific scale”. He says the Iraqi government has asked for assistance to avert further disaster.
