Police: Robber ate woman’s pain patch

A central Pennsylvania man was arrested after he stole and then ate a woman’s prescription pain patch, according to police.

Anthony Hessler, 26, of Palo Alto, took the 66-year-old woman for a walk from the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Schuylkill Haven on Wednesday and told her he was going to take the Duragesic patch off of her back, state police said in a news release.

When the woman refused, Hessler allegedly took the patch from her and ate it, police said.

Duragesic is the trade name of a patch used for the relief of moderate to severe pain. The patches release the drug fentanyl slowly through the skin.

Hessler was charged with robbery and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison on $1 million bail.
