Steelton Community Cats is a non-profit organization that focuses on trapping and neutering feral cats in several communities at a reduced cost.
The goal is to keep the cat population down.
Financial donations and volunteers allow them to provide assistance in trapping cats safely, and provide pre- and post-surgery care.
The facility has a surgery room where veterinarians perform procedures at no charge to SCC.
The cats are returned to their communities a few days after surgery.
SCC provides services to Swatara Township, Highspire and Susquehanna Township.
Rosemary Loncar says these efforts help slow down the cycle.
“You will have a mother cat with one litter, possibly two more litters by the end of the season,” Loncar said, “and the kittens could get pregnant in 4-6 months.”
