Work on a new roundabout at Sterretts Gap has closed Sunnyside Drive for another six weeks.
Construction crews closed Sunnyside Drive where it connects with Route 34 at the Cumberland and Perry county line around 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, according to a PennDOT news release.
Drivers who use Sunnyside Drive will be detoured to Route 944 and Route 34, the same detour that was used while the road was closed between May and early July.
PennDOT spokesman Greg Penny said when Sunnyside Drive is reopened to traffic in mid-to-late September, the new roundabout between Route 34, Sunnyside Drive and Mountain Road will essentially be in operation.
However, there is still considerable work to be done for the project. Penny said the construction contract is officially scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2015, after construction crews return from the winter shutdown to complete the final paving.
He said if possible, the contractor intends to complete the final paving in October.
