Residents react to new pipeline route

Williams Partners recently announced a 15-mile re-route for a proposed natural gas pipeline that is still set to run through Lebanon and Lancaster counties.

A company spokesman told abc27 that a section in several Lancaster County municipalities would move east. About 200 new landowners would be affected as a result.

The spokesman reiterated the pipeline is still in the planning stages.

The change occurred so the pipeline would no longer go through Mount Joy’s safe zone for drinking water wells or near an area designated for a new water treatment plant.

Those were concerns raised by borough officials.

Tuesday night, the topic was discussed at a West Hempfield Township Board of Supervisors meeting. The pipeline is set to go through a portion on the township.

During the crowded meeting, a handful of residents spoke out against the pipeline. Many urged officials to help keep the community informed and help fight the pipeline.

It is up to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to determine whether the project will move forward.
