Police are looking for help in finding a man and woman suspected in a prepaid gift card scam.
Susquehanna Township police said the unknown man purchases gift cards and then makes an excuse for returning it, while the woman selects a similar card and discretely passes it off to her alleged accomplice.
The man returns the inactive card to the clerk, and the couple make off with the activated card and a full refund.
Police said the most recent incident occurred Saturday afternoon at the Unimart on North Front Street, where the couple was seen in a dark gray Volkswagen Passat.
The man selected a $100 prepaid Visa card while the woman smoked a cigarette outside. She then entered the store and selected a similar card for the switch, police said.
The man told the clerk the card was to be a graduation gift for an out-of-country relative, and he didn’t realize it could not be used outside of the U.S., police said.
Police have released surveillance photos from the store so that someone may recognize the pair.
