Dog shot, killed after attacking police

An officer fatally shot a dog after it attacked him Friday night in North Middleton Township.

The incident happened at around 7:19 p.m. on the 500 block of McClures Gap Road near the Conodoguinet Creek.

The officer was helping a state police trooper search for a suspect who fled on foot.

As the officer was making contact with a person, a pit bull charged at him attempting to bite his left arm. The officer drew his side arm as the dog then began to bite his left leg. 

The officer fired two rounds at the pit bull’s upper body. The dog died as a result of the gunshots. 

The officer was taken to Carlisle Regional Medical Center for treatment. 

The dog owner was notified.
