Bill to allow newborn drop off at police stations heads to Corbett

The Senate has approved the “Safe Haven” Bill expansion which would allow police stations to be legally sanctioned places for unwanted newborns.

House Bill 1090 unanimously passed the House in October. It will now go to Governor Tom Corbett for approval.

Currently, hospitals are legally sanctioned safe havens.

The Bill was introduced by state Rep. Rosita C. Youngblood, D-Phila., Youngblood says she anticipates the governor will sign the proposal, putting Pennsylvania in line to become the 27th state in the nation to expand safe havens to police stations.
