Woman, 81, held by citizens following hit-and-run

Police say an 81-year-old Ephrata woman was involved in a hit-and-run early Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.

Ephrata police responded to a call for an erratic driver in the area of North State and Pine streets at 6:05 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found that citizens were holding the vehicle for police.

Authorities determined that the vehicle was being driven by 81-year-old Ruth Lawn, who had been involved in a crash prior to being stopped. Lawn’s car reportedly had two flat tires and passenger side damage.

Lawn was not injured, but her vehicle was towed from the scene.

Then at 7 a.m., Ephrata police received a report of a hit-and-run crash in the 800 block of South State Street.

Officials said that a vehicle parked along the roadway was struck by a passing vehicle.

Police recovered vehicle pieces and, after short investigation, they were determined to belong to Lawn’s vehicle.
