Police: Woman says she shoplifted by accident

A Lancaster County woman was arrested after she shoplifted at a thrift store and then returned to claim it was all an accident, police said.

Melanie Alyn Fox, 31, of Gordonville, had a tote bag bulging with merchandise when she refused to stop for employees at the Dollar General store at 35 W. Main Street in Leola Tuesday afternoon, according to East Lampeter Township police.

Fox drove off but returned a few minutes later with an empty tote bag and tried to explain that she had taken it by accident, police said in a news release.

She was arrested and charged with retail theft, a felony count because she has a prior shoplifting arrest, police said.
