Large power outage in upper Dauphin County

PPL says the power should be back on for almost everyone by 11:15pm.

The problem is a piece of broken equipment called a cross arm.  It’s part of a utility pole near Pine Grove. They’re working to fix it now.

Almost 8,000 PPL customers in upper Dauphin County have no power.

We’ve just spoken with the utility (at 8:45 Thursday night) and they do not yet know what caused the outage. They say they’ve dispatched several crews to track down the problem.

Here’s the breakdown of how many customers have no power and where they are located:

Elizabethville: 3843
Gratz: 611
Lower Paxton Twp: 29
Washington Twp: 486
Williamstown: 1377
Wiconisco: 1640

The outage stretches beyond Dauphin County, mostly into Schuylkill and Northumberland Counties. In all, 14,000 customers have no power.

We’ll update you with new information, including the cause, as soon as we get it.
