Parents gathered for an informational session on student social media and cell phone use at New Cumberland Middle School auditorium Thursday night.
The event entitled “Teens, Texting and Temptations” was a crash course of sorts for parents looking to find out more and how to monitor their child’s use.
Patrolman John Friel of West Shore Regional Police gave a presentation to explain the different kinds of social media sites, potential dangers, bullying and even some tips on how parents can come up with ground rules for students.
“There is the ability to grow with your kids. There’s the ability to grow with the technology and prevent them from encountering situations,” Friel said.
New Cumberland Middle School is planning to hold similar meetings for parents in the future.
