A four-mile stretch of Interstate 81 has reopened after a crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer closed the southbound lanes near Chambersburg for about 10 hours this morning.
I-81 South reopened around 11 a.m.
The tractor-trailer went off the highway and struck a guardrail before overturning and blocking all lanes at Exit 14 for Route 316 and Wayne Avenue around 1 a.m.
A corrosive material that leaked from the trailer had to be cleared by a hazmat team before the highway could be reopened. State police and PennDOT have not identified the hazardous material.
Southbound traffic was directed off the interstate by way of Swamp Fox Road at Exit 10 for Route 914 and Marion.
State police said the truck driver, 61-year-old Jeffrey B. Olney of Stittville, New York, sustained minor injuries.
