Hummelstown girl reaches spelling bee semifinals

Just one Pennsylvania student made it to the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee today – and she’s from the Midstate.

Aparajita Rao of Hummelstown, an eighth grader at St. Joan of Arc School in Hershey, was among 46 who advancing to the semifinals, but in the end she did not make it to the finals despite spelling both of her words correctly.

Rao did not score well enough in the written portion of the semifinals.

A dozen students will compete in the finals, which air live tonight on ESPN starting at 8 p.m.
