Harrisburg’s 311 system could be up and running soon

Harrisburg is trying to make it easier for people to reach officials for non-emergency calls.

All you will have to do is dial 311.

The city announced Thursday that the Public Utility Commission approved a city petition to use the three-digit dialing code.

It will allow residents to contact Harrisburg’s government offices and even Mayor Eric Papenfuse, who made the 311 system a campaign promise.

Papenfuse said in order to get the system up and running, the city needs to upgrade its Internet speed and get a new phone system, which he said is in the budget.
