Police searching for 3 suspects connected to theft ring

Police are searching for three suspects connected to a multi-state theft ring that targeted the Midstate.

West York police said they are looking for Ondray Gwynn, 54; Stanley Gwynn, 44; and Nathan Cockrell Jr., 54, all of Baltimore.

The three have been charged for their roles in two distraction thefts in West York; at a Smoker’s Outlet on April 28, 2012 and at a Giant food store on Dec. 28, 2012.

At the Smoker’s Outlet in the 1600 block of W. Market Street, two members of the theft ring distracted a clerk while two more acted as lookouts and a third person entered an office and removed the safe and a large amount of money, police said.

At the Giant in the 1200 block of W. Market Street, a member of the ring distracted a clerk while another acted as a lookout and a third broke into the office and took cash, police said.

Police said the three are among at least eight people involved in similar distraction-style thefts elsewhere in Pennsylvania and in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia over the last eight years.

Ondray Gwynn was recently extradited to Pennsylvania and was released on $15,000 bail, but failed to appear for a preliminary hearing on April 23.

Police said he was previously arrested for the theft of a $250,000 ring from a jewelry store in King of Prussia in Oct. 2005, for stealing almost $11,000 in jewelry from a Springettsbury Township store in Oct. 2006, and for the attempted theft of a $12,000 ring from a Virginia jewelry store in June 2012.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of any of the suspects is asked to call West York police at 717-854-1975 or 717-478-TIPS (8477).
