Homeless man charged in Carlisle restaurant robbery

A homeless man has been charged with robbery and simple assault for pulling a knife on a Carlisle restaurant owner, according to police.

Carlisle police said 37-year-old Jederiah Gilbert went to a restaurant in the 100 block of N. Hanover Street and asked for a job and leftover food Thursday night.

When the owner denied both, Gilbert allegedly slid into a booth next to him and pulled the knife.

Police said he told the owner, “Dude, I hate to do this, but I need food and money.”

The owner was able to get away and called 911.

Gilbert left the restaurant and was arrested a short distance away, police said.
