A 13-year-old Cumberland County boy was found safe after he had been missing for hours.
The parents of the Middlesex Township teen called police around 4:30 p.m. Thursday saying they thought he had run away from home. He had apparently told his family he was going for a run.
Around 9 p.m., several area fire departments searched for the boy along the Appalachian Trail using thermal energy cameras.
Shortly after midnight, police said a family member received a call from the boy saying he was at a Rutter’s store in Boiling Springs.
“It’s quite a distance and I’m sure the police department, through interviews, will attempt to find out if he went the entire distance by himself or if someone drove him part way,” said Cumberland County Public Information Officer John Breutsch.
The teen went willingly with a police officer back to his home.
