Police: Woman crashed car to stop bank robbery suspect

A Mt. Holly Springs man was arrested in the robberies of five banks in York and Cumberland counties after a witness crashed her vehicle into his getaway car during his latest heist, according to state police.

Alexis Laskowski, 38, robbed the PNC Bank 3405 Rosstown Road in Warrington Township just before 10 a.m. Thursday and was attempting to flee in a vehicle he parked at the Wellsville Lions Club, police said.

As he was leaving the parking lot, a 51-year-old Wellsville woman who had been inside the bank during the robbery intentionally crashed her vehicle in Laskowski’s and damaged both cars, police said.

Police said Laskowski made it about a quarter-mile on Old York Road before his vehicle became disabled from the crash. He ran into a wooded area and was arrested about a half-hour later following a search that involved four police agencies and a state police helicopter.

He later admitted to robbing banks in Boiling Springs, Mt. Holly Springs and Dover since February, police said.

Laskowski is accused of robbing the M&T Bank in Boiling Springs on Feb. 27, the F&M Trust in Boiling Springs on March 14, the M&T Bank in Mt. Holly Springs on March 18, and a Fulton Bank in Dover on April 14.

Police said they searched his parents’ home and found incriminating evidence, including pink-stained clothing from a dye pack that exploded during the robbery in Mt. Holly Springs.

Authorities added that while they praise the courage of the woman who got involved by crashing into Laskowski , they strongly discourage anybody from putting themselves into harm’s way and taking such action.
