The Cumberland County Coroner's Office has identified the drivers who were killed in a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 81 near Carlisle.
Shane A. Myers, 26, of Carlisle, died when the SUV he was driving
south on I-81 crossed the center median and collided with a tractor-trailer driven by 42-year-old Kevin D. Carr of Williamstown, N.J., Coroner Charley Hall said in a news release.
Both drivers died at the scene of multiple traumatic injuries, Hall said.
State police do not know why Myers crossed the median and went into the northbound lanes at mile marker 47 in South Middleton Township at 1:35 p.m.
The crash is
still under investigation.
Carr's passenger, a 55-year-old New Jersey man, was transported to Penn State Hershey Medical for treatment of unknown injuries.
A second tractor-trailer driver, a 27-year-old Georgia man, swerved right to avoid the crash and struck an embankment along the highway.
The crash closed the northbound
lanes between Exit 45 for College Street and Exit 47 for Hanover Street for more than four hours.
