An early morning fire in Northumberland County has claimed the lives of three children.

Authorities said 13-year-old Daniel Dissinger and his brothers, 7-year-old Gavin and 2-year-old Arthur, all died of burn injuries in the home at 60 South Smith Road in Rush Township, between Danville and Sunbury.

The boys lived in the home with three other children and their mother, who was at work when the fire was reported at around 1:20 a.m., officials said.

Two of the children managed to get
out of the home and ran to the home of a neighbor in the rural area. Another child was visiting a friend overnight.

Merle Zimmerman told television station WNEP-TV that he rented the farm house to the Dissinger family, who had just moved in and were still unpacking. He said the woman's husband died a couple of years ago.

Fire officials said the home had almost completely collapsed into the basement when firefighters arrived.

The cause is under investigation by a state police fire marshal.
