Police warn of car warranty phone-scam

Police are warning the public of a likely phone scam where a caller claims to be selling extended automotive warranties for Walmart.

York Area Regional police said people have been receiving phone calls from a Glen Rock number, 717-759-3044, that shows as “Walmart” on caller ID.

The caller has a heavy accent, will ask for the victim by name, and will tell them that “Walmart” is offering an extended warranty on their vehicle, police said.

The caller will have the victim's vehicle make, model and year, and will try to get the person to send a wire transfer to pay for the warranty, according to police.

Police warned that when someone you do not know asks you to wire money to them, it will most likely be a scam.
