PennDOT moving more road salt to Pa.

An additional 12,000 tons of road salt are headed to the Harrisburg area just in case we haven't seen the last of winter weather.

PennDOT has arranged to have a total of 35,000 tons of road salt trucked to Pennsylvania during the next two weeks, spokesman Rich Kirkpatrick said in a news release Friday.

Once the deliveries are complete, PennDOT will have more than 200,000 tons of salt ready for spreading on snow or ice-covered roads across the state.

Emergency salt deliveries were also made from the final week of February to March 4, when 20,000 tons of salt were shipped to facilities in the Philadelphia, Allentown and Harrisburg regions.

Kirkpatrick said so far this winter, PennDOT has used 1.24 million tons of salt, 35
percent more than the average of the past five winters.
