Part of Route 283 to close for sinkhole repair Friday night

PennDOT will close a section of Route 283 just east of the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Friday night because a sinkhole is undermining the concrete pavement of both eastbound lanes.

Construction crews plan to remove the concrete pavement slabs, assess the size and nature of the sinkhole, then make the repairs, PennDOT spokesman Greg Penny said.

Route 283 eastbound will reopen by early Monday, in time for the morning
commuter rush hours, but it is possible the work may finish sooner, Penny said.

An announcement will be made when the highway has been
restored to two lanes of traffic.

Motorists will be detoured through the interchange between I-283 and
Route 283 and directed onto northbound Eisenhower Boulevard to Fulling Mill Road, then eastbound on Fulling Mill
Road to Union Street, and finally south on Union Street to eastbound Route
283.
