Police in Susquehanna Township arrested a man they say was driving under the influence and firing a gun.
On Wednesday at around 1:20 a.m., Susquehanna Township Police were called to the 3700 block of Walnut Street for a report of shots fired in the residential area.
A resident had reported being awakened to several gunshots outside and had seen a car leaving the area.
Police responded and checked the area, but they were unable to locate any victims or evidence.
A little after 2 a.m., a patrol officer in the area saw a vehicle traveling east in the 3700 block of Chestnut Street, and then heard several gunshots. Other officers in the area were able to stop the vehicle.
Police identified the driver as 25-year-old Sixto Diaz, Jr. of the 1900 block of Briggs Street in Harrisburg.
According to officials, Diaz was visibly intoxicated, and officers saw spent shell casings on the car as well as an empty holster on the back seat. A further check of the vehicle revealed a 9mm handgun in the glove box as well as ammunition for that gun.
Diaz, who was uncooperative, was taken into custody and transported to the Central Booking Center to await arraignment on charges including DUI, person not to possess firearm, reckless endangering, resisting arrest, and driving on a suspended license.
Diaz was placed in Dauphin County Prison on $200,000 bail and a State Parole Detainer. Anyone with information about this incident may contact police at 909-9232 or 909-TIPS.
