Fire damages roof at York church

A fire damaged a small section of the roof at a York church this morning.

York City Fire Chief David Michaels said a fire alarm went off at the Asbury United Methodist Church, at 340 E. Market Street, at around 7:15 a.m.

Responding firefighters noticed an odor and found a ladder to the roof area, where they found the fire over the Sunday school classrooms Michaels said.

Fire damage was limited to a small area under the roof. There was also some water damage.

No damage estimate was available.

No one was injured.
