Harrisburg prepares for snow storm, shift services

Say it ain't snow! Harrisburg City officials are bracing for yet another round of winter weather. Mayor Eric Papenfuse announced changes to city services on Thursday.

Due to the looming snow storm expected to whack the northeast Thursday, Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse said in a press release that Public Works would suspend trash and recycling pickup until further notice. 

“We are closely monitoring the weather situation, and our Public Works crews are on alert,” Papenfuse stated in the release.

City officials announced that a snow emergency would be declared at midnight on Thursday. As such, there are various snow emergency routes where parking is prohibited, and cars will be towed.

 

· Division Street between Front & Seventh streets

· Second Street between Paxton & Division streets

· Maclay Street between Front & Seventh streets

· Seventh Street between Division Street & Fisher Plaza

· Walnut Street between Fisher Plaza & Front Street

· Paxton Street from Cameron Street to city line

· Derry Street from Mulberry Street Bridge to city line

· Market Street between Cameron & 25th streets

· State Street from Fisher Plaza to city line

· Herr Street from Cameron Street to city line

· 17th Street between Sycamore Street & Arsenal Boulevard

· 25th Street from Market Street to 29th Street

 

Harrisburg's city administration representative to the Parking Advisory Committee, Bruce Weber, said on Twitter he was working with Standard Plus to hash out several parking concerns.

On Wednesday evening, city officials announced that residents can park for free at the Locust Street garage, City Island and the Farm Show Complex. CAT will offer free shuttles until 8 p.m. at those parking locations, and shuttling will resume at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday.

The Locust Street garage will close at 10 p.m. and open again at 8 a.m. on Thursday, so residents are urged to park their cars soon!

A call was made to the Harrisburg School District, but no information regarding school delays or closing on Thursday was available.
