Feds: Harrisburg doctor distributed child porn

Federal prosecutors have announced child pornography distribution charges against a Harrisburg doctor.

David H. Scanlan III, 38, is accused of sharing child pornography over the Internet between May and June 2011, according to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith.

Scanlan, a physician specializing in pediatric oncology, was charged with one count of distribution of child pornography in a criminal Information filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Harrisburg.

Along with the information, a plea agreement was filed in which Scanlan agrees to plead guilty, Smith said.

The plea agreement must be approved by the court.

Scanlan faces a minimum of five and a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, Smith said.

He has surrendered his medical license.
