Police investigate Super Bowl Craigslist scam

State police in Dauphin County are investigating a scam involving a Super Bowl ticket scam on Craigslist.

According to officials, the scam involved a 58-year-old victim from Millersburg who attended the 2011 Super Bowl, and the seats he was assigned were condemned by the local fire marshal.

The victim was then featured in a newspaper article detailing how he traveled a lengthy distance and didn't have Super Bowl seats. Part of the NFL's settlement involved free tickets to any future Super Bowl.

Authorities believe the scam perpetrator used this background information to run a Craigslist scam by posing as the victim.

The suspect used the victim's name to advertise Super Bowl tickets on Craigslist; police said the scam involves another victim wiring money for the tickets, and then the tickets are never sent.
