A Pennsylvania senator who represents York County reportedly plans to leave office early.
PoliticsPA reported that Sen. Mike Waugh (R-York) plans to announce his resignation this week, effective Monday, and trigger a special election that gives party officials an edge in choosing his replacement.
Waugh announced in August that he would not seek re-election when his current term ends in 2014. He said he was recently diagnosed with a medical condition that will require a course of treatment.
Waugh has been a member of the state Senate since 1999 and he has been majority caucus chairman since 2007. He previously was a member of the state House from 1993 to 1998.
