Pennsylvania American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for parts of Fairview Township in York County.
The company said it experienced a loss in positive water pressure due to a water main break Thursday at the intersection of Gaumer Road and Weatherstone Drive, and contamination could have entered the distribution system.
As a result, there is an increased chance that the water might contain disease-causing organisms, the company said in a statement.
This advisory applies to homes on Terrace Place, Pleasant View Terrace, Hemlock Road, Evergreen Road, Summit Road, Ridge View Road, Oak Drive, Ann Road, Skyline Road, Walnut Level Road, Oak Knoll Road, Orchard Road, Clearview Road and Cherry Hill Drive.
Residents should either use bottled water, or first boil their tap water for one minute and then cooling it before drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice.
