PennDOT urges common sense during winter storms

Transportation Secretary Barry Schoch says PennDOT crews will work around the clock as needed during winter storms forecast in the days ahead, but drivers should not expect roads to be clear while snow is still falling.

Schoch said if there is significant precipitation, people shouldn't travel unless they must.

Those who do drive and encounter slippery road surfaces need to slow down and leave plenty of room in front of them, he said.

Schoch said interstates and expressways are PennDOT's primary focus, so drivers may find more snow or ice on less-traveled routes and should adjust for those conditions.
