A driver who refused to stop for Columbia police officers was injured in a crash involving a marked patrol car early New Year's Day.
The collision occurred at the intersection of 3rd and Union streets at around 1:18 a.m.
Police said the driver, who was not immediately identified, was wanted for a red light violation at 3rd and Locust streets.
Both the suspect and police Sgt. Marc Tremblay were transported by ambulance to a hospital, police said.
Tremblay was treated for minor injuries and released.
The suspect was being treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Authorities said the suspect was involved in another investigation in a neighboring jurisdiction, and Columbia police were not aware of that investigation when they saw the red light violation.
State police are investigating the crash.
