Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration were called to a cornfield in Butler Township near Biglerville after a plane crashed about 5:30 a.m. Thursday. State Trooper Rob Hicks confirmed two people died and debris scattered over a quarter-mile.
Mike Wertz said he heard a loud noise but didn't know it was a plane crash. “I thought it was two cars colliding,” said Wertz, “But when I went down the road, I could not believe what I saw.”
Trooper Hicks says some neighbors in the area heard what sounded like engine trouble before the aircraft went down.
Investigators have not confirmed if there are more victims, the kind of aircraft that went down, or where it took off from and the intended destination.
