A man who was a janitor at a central Pennsylvania church was arrested for stealing more than $50,000 after authorities found piles of cash all over his apartment, police said.
Joseph H. Leggett Jr., 62, of Shrewsbury, was charged Friday with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property, according to Southern York County Regional police.
An officer was inside Leggett's home for an unrelated incident last month and noticed a wooden basket containing cash and piles of cash throughout the apartment, police said.
Investigators determined Leggett stole the money from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Freedom while working there as a janitor, according to police.
During a search, police said they found more than $50,000 thrown in shoe boxes, grocery bags and wooden baskets throughout the apartment.
Leggett was arraigned before a district judge Friday and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
His preliminary hearing was scheduled Jan. 3.
