Debit card breach could impact thousands in PA

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Pennsylvania officials say hackers gained access to the personal information of about 26,000 Pennsylvanians who use debit cards to receive jobless and workers' compensation benefits.

The data breach disclosed Thursday was part of a wider breach that JPMorgan Chase says affected 465,000 users of its prepaid cash cards.

The state Treasury Department says Chase referred the matter to law enforcement and wouldn't explain how the breach occurred. The bank says it found no evidence the information was used improperly.

The Treasury Department says the breach affects cardholders who used the JPMorgan Chase UCard Center website between mid-July and mid-September. It says JPMorgan Chase is contacting cardholders by letter and in the meantime should report any transactions they don't recognize by calling the phone number on the back of their card.
